Really quite stunning photography from Jonathan Waiter. His images takes the standard mold and breaks it with an injection of attitude and personal expression. Waiter lets his models express emotions that other photographers would be afraid of, for fear the model would look too vulnerable. Instead Waiter brings us images that are independent, youthful, intriguing, and of course gorgeous.

The Art of the Trench by Burberry

david hockney art of the trench burberry

Burberry’s new website, Art of the Trench, is a beautiful example of embracing the company’s past with the present. The main page is a social photo album, with about 98% of the images provided from The Sartorialist Scott Schuman. While I love Schuman’s work the use of his work on this site doesn’t impress me all that much. What I like about is that it people add their own photos and add to the collection while people vote and share their favorite looks.

The feature I’m really found of though is the interactive history of the trench coat throughout the decades. It’s easy to miss, but if you look at the bottom of the page you will see a link that says “Story of the Trench.” From there you’ll be able to look at Burberry’s collections from the 1910’s to modern day.

I was about to post some images from V Magazine from Hedi Slimane and the fantastic stylist Nicola Formichetti, and then I got an email with some more pics that Natalia Vodianova had done with Slimane so I decided to post them together. The top two are from an update on Slimane’s Fashion Diary and the bottom two are from V Magazine.

How to be a Model: Rihanna for Vogue Italia

It’s amazing how many professional models Rihanna puts to shame when she graces the cover of a magazine. She has become a brand with the trademark look and attitude of the moment. In the September issue of Vogue Italia the Man Ray-esque images by Steve Klein display Rihanna in one of her most rounded spreads she’s ever done. Very few people can work so many extreme looks and still retain that essence in which you know that’s Rihanna. A lot of models can be a chameleon and adapt from photo to photo, but Rihanna can be Rihanna in any photo and make it work.

Fashionologie has all 19 images Paul Rowland did for V Magazine’s September issue. These images are crude, haunting, and in some cases disgusting, but they are all appealing to me. It is the best cross between the grotesque and new wave that I find oddly appealing.

Pastels by Timothy Paul Moore

Pastels by Timothy Paul Moore

I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m busy on updating my portfolio site at the moment, and the first part of that is adding a new collection. “Pastels” is actually a project from college that I’ve recently picked up again and decided to give them their proper place in my portfolio. The images are some of my favorite I’ve ever taken, they are soft and kinda rough at the same time which I think is probably how you could describe the model’s and I friendship at times :). I named the collection after, you might have guessed it, the band The Pastels. Their music just seemed to fit the photographs perfectly and definitely inspired the mood of these.

For the 5th anniversary of The New York Time’s T Magazine, they brought in Hollywood newcomer, Carey Mulligan, to be directed by five different fashion designers. This great spread features looks by Stefano Pilati, Nicolas Ghesquière, Miuccia Prada, Alber Elbaz, and Marc Jacobs. So go pick up this issue or check it out here.

This is really another powerhouse collaboration for W magazine. For the September issue supermodel Kate Moss shows off one of my favorite collections of the year, Prada, and is beautifully photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot. It is a really great feature, (as is par for the course with W it seems), so go pick it up if you see on newsstands and click here to see the full article.

Topshop Boutique Preview

Topshop recently posted these photos on their blog and I love them. Raw and candid but a lot of fun with great attention paid to the clothes and their inspiration.

Hedi Slimane for Prada

The brilliant Hedi Slimane was chosen by Prada to photograph their latest menswear campaign. Simple and refined, just like it should be. These photos continue the tradition of greatness both Slimane and Prada display time and time again when it comes to integrating high fashion into other artistic mediums. These are not the flashiest images out there but they are striking, Slimane knows how to reduce a subject to it’s pure, essential elements. In a time when technology and the increased exposure of amateur photography into the mainstream pressures professional photographers to go overboard on effects, Slimane shows that the best choice is to go with substance and let the photograph prove itself.

Making a Living Thing Even Better

Peter Bjorn and John’s Living Thing is one of the best albums I’ve heard in years, a true masterpiece in my eyes. So what could make the album even better? Their music videos. They’re live performances of the albums also just make my day, they are pure creativity at the moment, expect more of them on this site in the future.

(Unfortunately they have disabled embedding for their videos so click on one of the images to view these great videos.)

Next Project?

Ok so I shared some of these photos earlier in the week and I think I’ve finally made up my mind about them. I love this series but I know my thoughts and the thoughts of others don’t line up all the time. Since I believe that the viewer has more power in art than the artist I wanted to first post these up on here and get some reactions. So please click on the images and let me know about this series.

Natural by Timothy Paul Moore

The readers and fans of this site have been a big help to me yesterday and so I wanted to return the favor in the only way I knew how, going out and taking some photos for you. I’m releasing another project today titled Natural. It can be downloaded and shared, (all I ask is that you credit me if you share it, thank you). I have admitted my love for Georg Gerster and I think you can tell that his work was definitely an inspiration.

Here is the link to download the pdf (9.3 mb)

You can view the rest of my portfolio here

Here are a couple images from the project:

What Five Photos Do You Like?

I need everyone who is willing to go to my portfolio, http://timothypaulmoore.com and tell me what your top five photos from the site. I have been asked by a selection committee to display my best work and I already have an idea in my own head but honestly I look at these images so much I usually tend to like the odd out takes rather than the finished photos.

So if you’d like to help me out here’s all you have to do:

Either comment here or email me and tell me which ones you like by naming the group they are from and what number they come in the order so for example: The image below would be Couple #4

couple3 600x399 What Five Photos Do You Like?

Honestly you can do it in any way you’d like, any feedback I can get in this decision would be very helpful, thank you.
