Moon Duo
While I’m in San Francisco at the moment I thought I’d share one of my favorite bands from the area.

Giant by Vampire Weekend

A Contra B-side that even further channels Paul Simon. I can’t be the only one who thinks Me and Julio Down by the School Yard is coming up next after this song ends.

Sun Hands by Local Natives

What I love about folk music is its ability tweak and bend melodies into something very catchy and beautiful. Well the band Local Natives have that same ability and match it with a rock/dance style. The latest edition to the ultra cool label Frenchkiss have put out the single Sun Hands and it’s a really good example of their sound. I’ve had a listen through their album and it’s a real treat, check them out.

Lyricist by Towa Tei

On a Sunday I’ve usually had about a pot of coffee to myself by this time today and I haven’t had a drop so far. I’m going to go get some coffee before I kill something and listen to this to even me out.
Listen:
Day Glo by Brazos
It’s getting to be the middle of the week here, are ya stressed out yet? Well relax a bit with this song and click on the image to find out more about Brazos.

Wavves – Daytotter Session

Daytrotter posted their session with Wavves today. I don’t really need to go in depth about this one because I think everyone has already made up their minds whether or not they love or hate this band. If you want to see more check out the full article.
Listen:
YYY’s “Heads Will Roll” Remix by A-Trak

While I made it fairly well known that I was never a fan of this song and I’m rarely a fan of remixes, A-Trak has always been able to make consistent dance tracks and this is no different. This is closer to what I felt the YYY’s should have put out instead of just copying old New Order songs.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)
Thanks to Pretty Much Amazing for the heads up.
Horchata by Vampire Weekend

Here’s the first single off of Vampire Weekend’s next album Contra. Horchata shouldn’t disappoint many VW fans. I would take a hunch that Horchata was the most VW sounding track on the album, I don’t think they’d release the track that uses auto tune as their first single.

Playlist #14
It’s been a long since I put up a playlist. Well with me struggling with this cold it seemed like the perfect time to share what’s in current rotation.
(For some reason the Cudi song isn’t loading but it’s there, just right click on the link and open in a new window, sorry)

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – Falling Over

The Depreciation Guild – Darklooming

Higher Than the Stars by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

I’ve been sitting on this one for a while, but I’m getting so excited to meet up with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart this week that I thought I’d let my anticipation spill over onto the site. It’s just amazing to me that a band that is still riding off the success of their great album this year has already come up with a new ep that refines and takes their sound to new dimensions. Look for the ep when it comes out later this month and check back here for our interview with the band around the same time.

Playlist #12
Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork, that’s all I seem to do today. Because of this I’ve been burning through a ton of music, here’s some of the songs that stuck out of the constant audio stream.
The Sounds – 4 Songs & A Fight
![]()
Sleepy Sun – New Age

Wilco – I’ll Fight

Deerhunter – Famous Last Words

Crystal Antlers – Andrew

Jay-Z – D.O.A.

White Lies – Nothing to Give (M83 Remix)

Playlist #9
I used to make mix tapes in middle school for girls as an awkward way to get closer to them and try and ask them out. I haven’t done that in a while so I picked somebody at random from lookbook.nu. I love this pic, but I’m sorry mystery hipster girl, this playlist isn’t really geared toward you, it’s what’s on my iphone as I get ready to do a photo shoot today, still though, you’re a little impressed right? Either way I’m impressed by your style, keep it up.
(ps to Letter of Jane readers – It’s been terrific weather and I’m in a weird mood, live with it)

Charles Hamilton – Barbara Walters

Clipse ft Kanye West – Kinda Like a Big Deal

New Media Player for Playlists
I’ve switched over to the Yahoo media player for the playlist series on the site. I made the switch for a couple reasons. One is that it allows this site to work much closer to what I originally intended. Now when I put on a playlist, you can listen to the entire playlist seamlessly. You can also pop out the player or collapse it into the side which I think everyone will agree is a lot more convenient than the old media player. For people on mobile devices, you can still listen to the music by using the RSS feed, (to make it easy just subscribe to the feed and you’ll get them right away). Anyways, I’d love to get feedback on what you guys think, I hope you enjoy.
Here’s a track to test it out:
Mos Def – Life in Marvelous Times

While you’re at it, check out my friend’s blog, Finding Dinosaurs which I just did a bit of a design refresh on. It’s always good for a laugh so check it out.
Playlist #7
This play list is made out of necessity for me this time. I’ve always personally fought hard with bouts of high anxiety which leads to very frustrating insomnia. A lot of times people ask me how I know so many bands and the answer is simple, I have a lot of time to listen to music when I’d rather be sleeping and normal. So this collection is mainly what I’ve been surrounding myself with this week to keep me sane and happy, (how could you not be happy with a song like Rod Stewart-Young Turks?) Some old, some new, I didn’t dig that deep in the library this time but whatever it puts a smile on my face. It’s funny when I’m down I make very positive things.
The track list is:
Jeremy Jay – We Were There/ Passion Pit – Live to Tell the Tale/ Rod Stewart – Young Turks/ The Whitest Boy Alive – Keep A Secret/ Arctic Monkeys – A Certain Romance/ Albert Hammond Jr. – In Transit/ Peter Doherty – 1939 Returning/ Nico – These Days.
